Congratulations to THREE DAYS GRACE who were awarded ROCK ARTIST OF THE YEAR at the iheart radio music awards on March 14th.
You may be wondering what our connection is to the rock band THREE DAYS GRACE? Well here you have it, the guitarist Barry Stock is the founder/owner of MEAN BEARD, and so we are mighty proud to share the news with you and give you some background behind the band.
This is a great honour for THREE DAYS GRACE to win ROCK ARTIST OF THE YEAR as they have endured major challenges and also great successes over the recent years. They have sold over 6 million albums in the United States, and have received numerous awards. In 2018, THREE DAYS GRACE outpaced VAN HALEN and now hold the record for the most #1 songs at Active Rock Radio with 14 in total. The latest THREE DAYS GRACE album entitled "OUTSIDER" is their 6th studio release. The first 2 singles off the album have hit #1 at Active Rock - "The Mountain" and "Infra-Red". Their 3rd single "Right Left Wrong" is currently in the TOP 5.
The band was nearly dismantled in 2012 when the original lead singer, Adam Gontier, surprisingly up and left the band just before a co-headline tour with SHINEDOWN. Adversity is something we are all faced with in our lives, and THREE DAYS GRACE songs are known for their relatable lyrics about the ups and downs of life and instilling the positive messages that we should never give up and that we can rise up and get through our challenges. That is exactly what the band did after the exit of their previous singer. With great resilience the band brought on a new singer, Matt Walst, who is the younger brother of the bass player Brad Walst. Matt fit the large set of shoes perfectly and he swiftly and surely assumed the position and helped lift THREE DAYS GRACE to new heights. The band's 5th studio album which is the first album Matt sang on was a great success. The first and second singles "Painkiller" and "I Am Machine" respectively, reached #1 at Active Rock (6/9/14 & 1/26/15).
Rock music inspires millions of peoples' lives. Rock lives in our hearts, we were born to rock. We thank you for your love and support, it means a lot, especially in this day and age when ROCK is getting the back seat to HIP HOP, POP and R&B. The ROCK ARTIST OF THE YEAR category was an off-camera award and no mention of the bands nominated, nor the winner were announced on the televised show. We think iheart radio missed out on sharing this real life relatable story unfortunately, and a disservice to the ROCK genre was served because they didn't get the spotlight nor a seat in the first few rows. To this we say to the music industry, all music is created equal as it comes from the soul and it inspires souls. Rock is deserving of the limelight, just as all genres of music are, so let's together elevate rock back up to where it belongs.
Keep on rocking and living the good life!
